Scrap Crates Overview

Hey there, Prospector! If you’ve been adventuring through the Reach and stumbled across something called a Scrap Crate, you might be wondering what it is. Don’t worry - we’ve got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know about how Scrap Crates work and what kind of goodies you can earn from them!

What is a Scrap Crate?

Scrap Crates are bonus loot you can find while playing in the Reach. When you find one, you’ll get a cosmetic reward and some XP - simple as that. They’re a fun little extra that helps you unlock styles, sprays, fireworks, and more while you play.

How do they work?

  • When you find a Scrap Crate, everyone on your team gets something, but the reward is based on where you are in your personal progression.
  • Each crate gives you one cosmetic item from a fixed track (there are 150 total), plus +500 XP.
  • The rewards aren’t random—you’ll always unlock them in the same order, so you don’t need to worry about duplicates or missing out.

Also, when someone opens a crate, everyone on your team is informed via an in game callout message - a little team-wide moment to celebrate.

Where can I find them?

You’ll only find Scrap Crates in loot rooms - the ones that appear after you complete a point of interest in the Reach.

  • There’s no guarantee a crate will be there, but the more POIs you complete in a match, the better your chances.
  • On average, players should find one every game or two. Sometimes you might find more than one in a match - and sometimes none at all.

What kind of stuff can I get?

There’s a set of 150 rewards you’ll work through as you find crates. These include:

  • Sprays
  • Fireworks
  • Ship names
  • Audio lines
  • Character, weapon, and ship styles

You unlock one item each time you find a crate. Once you’ve earned all 150, you’ll still get +500 XP from any crates you find after that.

That’s everything you need to know about Scrap Crates - now you’ll know exactly what is happening the next time one pops up. Keep exploring, keep looting, and enjoy the ride (and the fireworks)!
