What is a Chargeback?
A chargeback happens when a player disputes a purchase with their bank, credit card provider, or payment service (like PayPal). This results in the original payment being reversed - meaning the platform (Steam, Epic, PlayStation, or Xbox) pulls the funds back, as if the purchase never happened.
Chargebacks can happen for many reasons, such as accidental purchases, unauthorized use of your payment method, or confusion about refund options.
What Happens to Your Wildgate Account?
Because Wildgate purchases are handled through Steam, Epic, PlayStation, or Xbox, a chargeback impacts your account in a few possible ways:
- If you haven't spent your Wildgate Credits - The full amount of Credits will be removed from your account.
- If you already spent your Wildgate Credits - You'll see a negative balance in-game. You won’t be able to make further purchases until you pay back the amount.
Note: Items purchased with Credits will not be removed, but you’ll need to repay the debt to restore your account’s purchasing ability.
What if Your Platform Account is Banned?
In some cases, chargebacks may cause your Steam, PlayStation Network, or Xbox account to be suspended or permanently banned. This is something handled entirely by the platform. If this happens, you’ll need to contact their support teams directly.
How to Fix It
To make your account whole again and resolve a chargeback, you'll need to follow the steps from your platform:
- Steam - Steam Chargeback FAQ
- Epic - Epic Games Store Refund Policy
- PlayStation (PSN) - PlayStation Account Debt & Suspensions
- Xbox - Xbox Chargeback Information
Reminder
We are unable to reverse chargebacks on our side - only the first-party platform can do that. Once your platform account is restored and the chargeback is resolved, your Wildgate account will update automatically.
If you’re unsure what happened or believe a chargeback was filed in error, we recommend reaching out to your bank and the platform where you made the purchase.
